PERSONAL STYLE: Jael loves dressing up. Her favorite clothing items are sleek and show off her curves - long dresses, skinny jeans, and the like. She prefers dark colors, but shies away from wearing nothing but black, as it makes her feel too cartoon-Reaperish. When she wears black, she often adds to it by including brighter jewelry or other accessories.
Her hair is usually straight and long, but when she wants to try a new style, she sometimes wears her hair in a short bob or in curls. She only wears ponytails when she is doing physical work, as she likes her hair to frame her face. She is not the most confident person, but she is not shy either, and her usual demeanor shows that. Alternatively, she can occasionally be stuck-up, usually when she is feeling insecure, which is not common for her.
She has a pair of white wings that she can make visible or invisible via phasing. They are not as big as angels' wings, and she can not fly as far as angels fly, nor is she very good at flying. She thinks of her wings as "accessories," not so much as a part of her.
Personality
GENERAL PERSONALITY: Jael is numb. The passing years and her role in them have caused her to fall into a fairly drab routine, one that does not allow her to be the person she wants to be. Guiding souls to Purgatory can be a demanding task, and Jael is surrounded by death almost all the time. She would like to be able to walk among the humans properly, but, as a spirit, she remains unseen, unable to interact with most others, a fact that really hurts her and keeps her down.
On the job, Jael is serious and focused. She does care about others, though, and knows how to soothe the dead she is guiding so that their transitions go well. She can be considerate and insightful, as long as no one pushes her. If someone does, then it is likely she will show them her dark, fierce side. In these cases, she becomes condescending, speaks bluntly, and can be cruel.
With others on the spiritual plane, she can be lively to the point of seeking attention. In general, when she is not upset or at work, she is a pleasant person to be around. She likes being active, and is always happy to have someone to drag along with her on adventures.
LIKES:
- Horses- She is skilled at riding horses and loves taking care of them.
- Parties- Getting to meet new people in an active environment is her idea of fun.
- Flying- She often goes paragliding and skydiving, as she enjoys the feel of the open air.
- Shopping- It is calming to her, and she always likes having new things.
DISLIKES:
- Being invisible- It seems cool at first, but after centuries of walking unseen, Jael has grown tired of it.
- Portrayals of the Grim Reaper- Death always seems to be personified as evil, while Jael actually considers herself a very nice incorporeal entity.
- Loneliness- She hates feeling alone, whether she is by herself or surrounded by strangers.
- Apathy- She believes everyone should care about what is happening around them.
STRENGTHS:
- Insightful- She can be thoughtful and intuitive toward others, understanding their needs better than they do themselves.
- Caring- As much as she hates to admit it, she does care deeply about the welfare of others.
- Fast thinker- She can improvise and come up with anything on the spot.
WEAKNESSES:
- Condescending- Jael can be nosy and bossy, and thinks more highly of herself than others.
- Impatient- She expects instant gratification, and hates being forced to wait.
- Craves attention- She loves being the center of things and enjoys being doted on.
Powers, Abilities, Skills
As a Reaper, Jael's primary ability is Teleportation. She can be anywhere she needs to be in a matter of moments. She prefers to teleport to places she already knows, but her work requires her to take chances often, and when she teleports somewhere new, it is often only luck that keeps her from teleporting into a wall.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
- Teleportation- A basic Reaper ability. She can get from one place to another via thought.
- Healing- She cannot be "killed" by conventional means.
- Superhuman Senses- As a spirit, she can sense things easily - not only smells and sounds, but also facts about others, occasionally. She also receives her orders through sensing.
- Illusions- Jael can create illusions of herself and other things, by projecting thoughts or images into a person's mind.
SKILLS:
- Archery- Jael can use a traditional bow and arrow as well as a crossbow very accurately. She also occasionally uses blades, but is not as adept with these.
- Horseback riding-She is an expert at this, and is very knowledgeable on the subject.
- Acrobatics- At some point in her life, Jael took up gymnastics, kickboxing, and various other activities, making her very flexible and able to move well.
- Music- She can play stringed instruments like the guitar, harp, and lute.
LIMITS AND FLAWS:
When teleporting, Jael has to be careful to appear somewhere safe, and not within a wall or another person. If she does wind up in one of these places, she has about two seconds to teleport out before her body stops functioning.
Her illusions work best on standard humans. Some species can sense that they are not quite right or altogether fake. She can project to a room full of people, but the more people, the more difficult it becomes, and the more strain she puts on herself, making the illusions weaker.
History
Jael was created sometime during the fourteenth century. Whether she experienced life as a human before that is unknown to her. In fact, she remembers nothing up until around the seventeenth century. As time passes, her memory of her past fades, leaving her feeling isolated and alone.
She does not recall where her name came from. Most of what she remembers is reaping souls. As she is usually not visible to the human eye except before death, the only friends she has made in the past are other spiritual or otherworldly beings. She loves the human world, though, and enjoys walking around it, observing things, when she is not busy with work.
Every major disaster the world has seen from the bubonic plague on has been an assignment for Jael. Wars, genocides, countless natural disasters, several famines, and of course lesser known deaths and accidents - she has seen death more than life, which has affected her personality deeply. As a result, she has never had many lasting relationships, as she sees life as fleeting.
Her primary - nearly only - function is to take souls from the human plane to Purgatory, where they await judgment on being sent elsewhere. She is not part of the judgment process, and if she has been to Heaven or Hell herself, she does not remember it.

New Orleans
The priest came to life - or perhaps death - and turned his head, instinctively knowing that someone was there. His car, a white BMW, had been involved in a nasty pileup, and unfortunately, he had passed away due to his injuries. It had not been painless, but he had not suffered long. It took him some time to realize just what had happened to him.
Jael tried to smile. It was always difficult, smiling at people whose worlds had just changed. She often felt as though her smile meant little, as it came whenever her charge was about to enter the shock of having died. And so it was in this case. The priest looked around, saw his own body bloodied and still, and started to freak out.
"It's all right," she called softly. Her appearance changed by way of illusion; she had been wearing dark colors, but now she seemed to wear a dress of pastel-colored cotton, light and simple. The youthful look, rather than the darker look of death, would have less of a frightening factor, she hoped. "Come with me, Father."
Hesitantly, the priest lifted himself out of the seat. Jael reached in and took his hand, and his spirit passed through the material of the car door. He looked back, but Jael redirected his attention before he was staring too long. "Come, take a walk with me."
There were two angels behind them, sitting on the roof of his car - the archangels Ramiel and Gabriel. Ramiel whispered well-wishes as Jael led the priest away. "Where are we going?" the priest asked timidly, and Jael shook her head lightly.
"We're going to your Judgment, where your next destination will be determined." It did seem, though, that the priest would enter Heaven, but she hated to get his hopes up.
The priest nodded and looked around. The scenery was changing as they walked, from the busy streets of New Orleans into a new place, covered by a fine, almost comforting mist. "We have a little farther yet to go," Jael told him gently. "But it won't be much farther."
The walk was meant to give him time to adjust, and Jael could shorten or extend it as she liked. Once she saw the priest had accepted his fate, she would reveal the rest to him, leave him in the hands of the saints who would judge him before he could enter the gates of Heaven.
For now, though, they would walk.
